Thumbnails

Thumbnails, has anybody tried them? I took some photographs of the beautiful ceramics at the V&A museum. I mounted the photographs onto a board and drew little doodles and designs inspired by my photographs. These doodles/miniature designs are known as thumbnails.

I then proceeded to create more thumbnails inspired by the ceramics and Sonia Delaunay. This has really helped my design work because I now have a direction and some information to refer to when I am printing.

I really recommend this form of design practice. I promise it is fun too!

Taali collection by Monaluna

I am currently working on a printed textiles collection and I was advised to look into what a collection actually means? I find the idea a little daunting when really it doesn't have to be. I was told to look at a collection and imagine it as a family, after creating the first design, imagine the brothers, sisters, mum and dad. I found this idea really useful. Below is the six piece Taali collection by Monaluna. The designs are printed on organic cotton fabric and are graphic and modern. I think this is a great example of a collection.

Boyfriend's Birthday

Today was my boyfriend's birthday, I had to be creative when I wrapped his presents because I didn't have any wrapping paper, so I used a mixture of brown paper and wallpaper and I also used ribbons, needlework thread and origami to decorate and secure the wrapping. I love to give presents, I find it so exciting. Click here to see where my gift wrap inspiration came from. I used a mixture of Autumn colours and the colour blue is his favourite. We went for a wonderful meal and drank champagne and spent the weekend celebrating with friends and family.

Cheer Up

I am feeling a little stressed this weekend. I have been trying really hard to help decorate and organize my boyfriends birthday party which starts this evening and I am lucky because lots of wonderful people have been very helpful but I still feel like I could have done a better job and it would have been useful if I could somehow turn myself into two. I could really do with some of these emergency glitter pills, all you need to do is open them and throw glitter around and this would certainly lift my spirits!

Enjoy your weekend

Geometric Prints

I have scanned my paintings into photoshop to create these geometric prints, I am mid way through my project now and finding this stage exciting because I am developing my ideas and not worrying too much about weather the prints work or not but I would love to hear your feedback. I am developing these prints for interiors.

Pattern and more pattern

I have been very busy recently developing a series of patterns within my sketchbook. I no longer have any pages to fill because I ran out of space. Therefore I felt ready for the next stage of my project which involved importing the pages into photoshop and putting more patterns and textures together. I have had these designs printed onto fabric although I am still waiting to collect them and even though the designs are no where near finished I thought it would be fun.

Marry Me

I am attending a wedding on the weekend which I am looking forward to because I love to see the way people decorate their special day. I know weddings can be expensive but when I get married I would like to find lots of creative and crafty ways to make the day extra special, for example making my own garlands and sweets.

Bringing string lights and dixie cups together is a brilliant idea and you could push the idea further by punching holes around the rim of the cups or cutting out pretty shapes.

I think it would be so much fun collecting items such as vintage lamps and pretty shade brollys and the overall appearance is stunning and memorable.

I imagine my wedding cake to be quite simple. I really like this one and the blocks of colour. I am really into pastels and I think the pop of red is beautiful. My gran makes fantastic cakes and so I am very lucky!

I also think refreshment stations can be kept classy if they are done right and this image is a great example. Of course I am no where near the stage in my life where I want to get married but when my special day comes I will be sure to make the most of it!

Have a good weekend :)
